State aid: Commission approves modified German support scheme for offshore wind energy
German aid to enable offshore wind energy generation to be further developed in Germany has been approved by the European Commission, as being in line with EU State aid rules and the 2014 Guidelines on State aid for environmental protection and energy.
The aid scheme replaces an existing scheme that was formerly approved in 2017 (SA.45461) (modified ‘WindSeeG’), and will increase the target for installed offshore wind capacity from 15 Gigawatt (GW) to 20 GW by 2030 and set a target of 40 GW of installed offshore capacity by 2040.
It will apply to pre-selected and tender-specific sites, and be granted in the form of a premium on the electricity market price.
