Submission of a European Citizens’ Initiative on the protection of national and linguistic minorities

The European Citizen’s Initiative (ECI) ‘Minority SafePack – one million signatures for diversity in Europe’ has been successfully presented today before the European Commission. According to the ECI’s new regulatory framework, applicable as of 1 January 2020, the Commission will now meet the ECI organisers to discuss it in detail, before deciding on the next steps (proposing legislation, taking other non-legislative measures, or not acting at all).

This ECI calls upon the EU to adopt a set of legal acts to improve the protection of persons belonging to national and linguistic minorities and strengthen cultural and linguistic diversity in the EU. It is the fifth such initiative to have successfully passed the one-million signature threshold.

More information on this ECI is available here.
