Update on cyberattack on European Medicines Agency of information relating to COVID-19 medicines and vaccines
On 9 December 2020, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) based in Amsterdam suffered a cyberattack, and announced that it had ‘swiftly launched a full investigation’, cooperating with law enforcement and ‘other relevant entities’.
It provided its fourth update on the ongoing investigation yesterday, revealing that ‘some of the unlawfully accessed documents related to COVID-19 medicines and vaccines belonging to third parties have been leaked on the internet’. It added that law enforcement authorities are taking action.
Previous updates described the data breach as being limited to one IT application, and that a limited number of documents belonging to third parties were unlawfully accessed.
