Ursula von der Leyen presents her team to the European Parliament

The European Commission’s President-elect von der Leyen gave a speech today at the European Parliament’s Plenary sitting, during the presentation of her College of Commissioners and their programme ahead of the European Parliament’s vote of approval of the Commission.

Von der Leyen highlighted the achievements of her predecessor, Jean-Claude Juncker, and committed to continued dialogue with the European Parliament during her presidency. She also presented the Chamber with the main points of her Commission’s programme. She addressed, inter alia, the geopolitical, environmental, technological, economic, and migration priorities of the new Commission.

As the first woman to be President of the Commission, von der Leyen has also committed to guarantee that every Member of her College has a gender-balanced Cabinet for the very first time. She has also pledged to achieve gender equality at all levels of management – for the very first time – by the end of her mandate.
