Vice-President Dombrovskis: Commission’s main economic priorities
Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis delivered a speech at the Die Welt Economic Summit in Berlin yesterday. He outlined the Commission’s main economic priorities for the upcoming legislature. He highlighted three priorities as important:
– the strengthening of Europe’s economic sovereignty at times of global uncertainty;
– the use of EU economic and industrial policies to support the green and digital transformations;
– effective social policies alongside those changes to build a more inclusive society.
Like Christine Lagarde (see our post on her comments here), he also referred to the current economic slowdown. He praised Germany’s use of “some of its fiscal space to support investment”. Finally, he insisted on the importance of differentiated fiscal policies within the EU and the Eurozone, as well as the need of a liquid Capital Markets Union.
