Analysis: “Playing in the sand with AI – a way forward for participation in Risk Regulation?” by Danai Petropoulou Ionescu

On 27 June 2022, the Government of Spain and the European Commission presented the pilot of the first regulatory sandbox on Artificial Intelligence (AI) during an event held in Brussels.

This sandbox is the latest addition to the many working groups, taskforces, and committees set up in the effort to lay down rules on AI that streamline the potential benefits and mitigate the many risks that AI can pose. Examples include the High Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence tasked to provide expert advice on AI, and the European AI Alliance Forum, where stakeholders can discuss and share information related to AI. All these efforts follow from President von der Leyen’s political commitment to put forward a coordinated EU approach
