Commission’s Communication on fair remuneration of providers of European Electronic Toll Service, published in OJ

Today, official publication has been made of a Communication from the European Commission on its Notice on interpretative guidelines concerning Articles 6 and 7 of Directive (EU) 2019/520. The Directive concerns the interoperability of electronic road toll systems and facilitating cross-border exchange of information on the failure to pay road fees in the Union.

The new guidelines aim at clarifying how providers of the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) should be fairly remunerated by toll chargers across the EU, seeking to reduce disputes and support competition in the electronic tolling market.

The EETS is designed to allow road users to pay tolls throughout the EU with a single contract, provider and on-board unit.
