EDPS published first mapping of high-risks AI systems in European institutions, agencies and bodies

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has published its first report mapping AI systems used or planned within EU institutions, agencies or bodies (EUIs), as preparations advance for implementation of the AI Act. Under the AI Act, the EDPS is designated market surveillance authority for AI systems deployed by EUIs. To support this role, a dedicated EDPS Artificial Intelligence Unit was established in October 2024.

Conducted in cooperation with AI Act Correspondents across EUIs, the voluntary mapping exercise is one of the first carried out by a market surveillance authority under the AI Act. It aimed to encourage early inventories of AI use, identify EUI-specific operational contexts relevant for future implementing rules
