European Commission proposes to extend provisional application of EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement

The European Commission has adopted a proposal today which would enable an extension of provisional application of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement until 30 April 2021. This is described as a technical measure to enable completion of the legal-linguistic revision of the Agreement in all 24 languages that will be made available to the European Parliament and Council of the EU.

Provisional application of the TCA will not cease on the EU side until ratification, after the scrutiny and consent of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. Such provisional application had been proposed by the European Commission in order to provide time for such scrutiny, and approved by the Council of the EU on 29 December 2020. A dec
