Judge O’Leary elected Vice-President of European Court of Human Rights

Judge Siofra O’Leary was elected yesterday as Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). The Court has two Vice-Presidents, who also preside over Sections, the other three Sections each having a Section President.

Ms. O’Leary holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from University College Dublin and a PhD on European Law from the European University Institute in Florence and held different positions at the Court of Justice from 2004 to 2015. She was elected as the Irish judge of the ECtHR in 2015.
